AKA Labelled Xenophobic and Receives Death Threats
South Africa is going through a dark time, women and children are being kidnapped, raped and murdered at an alarming rate. As part of the backlash, the country is also currently embroiled in violent xenophobic attacks.
South Africans and Nigerians are now weighing in on the matter, with some heated Social Media exchanges taking place, and AKA became caught in the crossfire.
The “Fela in Versace” hitmaker condemned the attacks and cried out for peace but Nigerian musician, YCee, tweeted accusing AKA of being xenophobic.
Supa Mega tried to hit back at the allegation by posting a picture of himself wrapped with a Nigerian flag. However, YCee cited a series of tweets AKA made when South Africa lost to Nigeria in the AFCON quarterfinals earlier this year.
Like many other football fans, the rapper reacted in disappointment, complaining that South Africa “keeps losing to Nigeria in every way”, but the tweet has been out of context and aligned to the current xenophobic attacks.
From there, all hell broke loose, and the rapper began to receive death threats and warnings to never set foot in Nigeria. Surprisingly, even his former collaborators, Ice Prince and Burna Boy joined the party attacking him.
AKA, in response, has disregarded the threats, reiterated his stance against xenophobia and continued to call for unity on the continent.
