Arthur Mafokate Wants Cici Thwala to Pay Up

September 25, 2020

Arthur Mafokate wants his ex-girlfriend, singer Busisiwe “Cici” Thwala, to pay him back money that she allegedly owes his record company.

Per reports, the “Ndidinge” songstress – who was previously in an abusive relationship with Mafokate – signed an exclusive deal with his company, 999 Music Label, in 2016. The deal entailed that she would record two albums.

However, upon leaving the label in 2017, a clearance agreement was made whereby 999 would be made sole owners of Thwala’s future works – including singles and albums – as they hold the publishing rights.

The label is also apparently entitled to a certain percentage of revenue generated by her works.

Now, in court documents recently filed at Gauteng High Court, Mafokate wants access to Thwala’s financial records so that he can claim a chunk of money generated by her 2017 album, “Busisiwe”.

The album – recorded when Thwala signed with Ambitiouz Entertainment – made R1 million in revenue. Per Mafokate’s calculations, he is entitled to R60 000 of that money to this day, although it sounds as if he may want more.

Thwala has yet to comment publicly on Mafokate’s claims.
