Ayo Edebiri Wins Her First Emmy

January 16, 2024

It’s a good month for Nigerian-American actress, Ayo Edebiri, who was just handed her first Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

The 28-year-old thespian claimed her silverware in a custom leather Louis Vuitton dress last night, Monday 15 January, in Los Angeles, California. The starlet received the honour for her role as Sydney Adamu in the dark comedy-drama, “The Bear”.

During her acceptance speech, Edebiri made sure to acknowledge the sacrifices her parents had made to get her there: “Thank you so much for loving me and letting me feel beautiful and Black and proud of all of that.”

“I love you so much,” she said emotionally before jokingly adding: “Probably not a dream to immigrate to this country and have your daughter go “I wanna do improv,” but you are real ones.”

Edebiri’s co-star, Jeremy Allen White, also took home Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in the television series. The win comes just one week after Edebiri received a “Best Actress in a Television Comedy” Grammy Award for the same role.

“The Bear” has officially been renewed for a third season, but a release date has not been made public as of yet.
