
Beloved Actress Meme Ditshego Dies at Age 60
South African television has lost one of its brightest stars, Meme Ditshego, who passed away on Wednesday evening, 25 June, at the age of 60.
Her management, Eye Media Artists, confirmed her death following a short, undisclosed illness.
Ditshego was celebrated for her comedic brilliance and versatility, best known for her role as Josephine Ratau in Ga Re Dumele, a performance that earned her a SAFTA award. She also featured in acclaimed shows such as “My Perfect Family”, “Muvhango”, “The Coconuts”, and “7de Laan”.
Her career began in township theatre before transitioning to television in the late 1990s. She became a familiar face across major platforms including SABC, eTV, MultiChoice and Netflix, touching viewers both locally and abroad.
In a heartfelt tribute, Ditshego’s agency said, “Whether through laughter or heartfelt storytelling, Meme had a rare gift: she made us feel.”
Tributes have poured in on Twitter/X from fans and industry peers mourning her loss. Funeral details are yet to be announced.
Ditshego’s legacy remains one of trailblazing talent and deep emotional connection – a true icon of South African stage and screen.
