Rapper Boity Thulo has been signed to a major US record label.

According to reports, 30-year-old Thulo – who went from acting to making her rapping debut in 2018 – is now signed to the African division of Def Jam Recordings, an American-based record label which focuses on hip hop, pop and urban music.

Artists currently include Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Rihanna, and South Africa’s very own Nasty C – the latter musician featured on Thulo’s first single, “Wuz Dat”.

Thulo’s signing was announced by entertainment reporter, Phil Maphela, on Sunday, 24 May, via his Twitter account.

Maphela wrote: “[Thulo] is one of the African division [sic] of the iconic label’s signees … Congrats Queen [sic].”

In a tweet posted on the same day, Thulo herself seemingly – and joyfully – alluded to the signing.

She wrote: “Wholeheartedly grateful. This year is filled with pockets of beautiful surprises and blessings!”
