Burna Boy and Wizkid Set New Streaming Records
The global Afrobeats movement reached a fever pitch this week as two of Nigeria’s biggest titans, Burna Boy and Wizkid, shattered major streaming records on Spotify.
Leading the charge is the “African Giant” himself, Burna Boy, who officially surpassed a staggering 9.6 billion streams across all credits on Spotify as of the morning of 1April 2026. This milestone cements his position as the most-streamed African artist in the platform’s history.
His ascent has been fueled by the sustained global success of his Grammy-nominated catalog and a relentless international touring schedule that has converted millions of new listeners across Europe and the Americas.
Simultaneously, the “Starboy” Wizkid continues to prove his chart-topping longevity. His high-octane collaboration with Asake, titled “Jogodo,” was officially named the most-streamed Nigerian song of 2026 so far by Spotify Nigeria on 31 March 2026.
Released as the lead single from their joint EP REAL, Vol. 1, the track became the first Nigerian song this year to cross the 30 million stream mark, doing so in record time. As these icons continue to push the boundaries of digital consumption, the “Afrobeats to the World” era shows no signs of slowing down, with Nigeria firmly at the center of the global pop conversation.
