Burna Boy Extends Billboard Streak With Gunna Collab
Burna Boy has once again etched his name into music history by becoming the first African artist to secure a place on the Billboard Hot 100 for five consecutive years.
His latest entry, “wgft” with American rapper Gunna, debuted at number 94, adding to his already impressive run of seven Hot 100 appearances, more than any other African act.
The 34-year-old Nigerian star first broke through with “Last Last”, which reached number 44 and became a global anthem in 2022. Since then, he has broadened his appeal with collaborations alongside Justin Bieber, 21 Savage, Metro Boomin, Byron Messia, and even Coldplay, cementing his status as one of Africa’s most versatile exports.
His commercial success has been matched by record-setting live performances. In 2023, he became the first African artist to headline an American stadium at Citi Field in New York City, New York. Just a year later, his Capital One Arena show in Washington D.C. set a new benchmark for the highest-grossing concert by an African artist in America.
Burna Boy’s Billboard streak is more than a personal victory: it reflects Afrobeats’ growing power on the world stage. Each entry underscores his role in pushing African music further into the global mainstream.
