Charmaine Mtinta Speaks Out on Leaving “Smoke and Mirrors”

December 06, 2024

Actress Charmaine Mtinta has opened up about her exit from e.tv telenovela, “Smoke and Mirrors”.

Earlier this week, entertainment reporter, Phil Mphela, initially claimed that Mtinta – who portrayed the sangoma Nomeva – was fired by the show’s producers.

“Though popular, a decision was made to write off the character due to failure to reach mutual ground between production and the actress,” Phela wrote on Twitter/X. “Upon further investigation, I have been made aware that the prolific actress had issues with her ‘Smoke and Mirrors’ contract.”

On Wednesday, 4 December, Mphela tweeted a statement made by Mtinta, who clarified that she was not fired as was previously reported.

“These claims are untrue and risk tarnishing my reputation and career. And I feel it is necessary to address them directly,” the 56-year-old actress wrote.

“To clarify my departure, I followed a series of professional discussions between myself and the production team regarding the terms of my role. While we did not reach an agreement, the discussions were conducted with mutual respect. I remain committed to my craft, and look forward to continuing to bring meaningful and impactful performances to audiences.”
