South African house music producer, Collen “Chymamusique” Mmotla, is in recovery after a devastating collision on the N1 near Ysterberg Mountain, outside Polokwane, which claimed five lives, including fellow artist DJ Poizen.

The accident – which took place on 30 August – saw two cars collide head-on before bursting into flames, with four victims burnt beyond recognition. Chymamusique and another passenger survived and were taken to a nearby hospital. He has since undergone several surgeries.

On Monday, 8 September, the musician’s team shared an encouraging update: “Chymamusique out of ICU. As of now four successful operations, one outstanding. [He is] still hospitalised until further notice. Thank you for your prayers and support during the toughest times.”

The death of DJ Poizen, born Calvin Masetla, has left a deep mark on South Africa’s music community. Tributes have poured in from fans and peers, with his family confirming memorial services in both Gauteng and Limpopo ahead of his burial.

While Chymamusique’s road to recovery continues, he remains grateful for fans’ support during this difficult period, as the industry also mourns the loss of one of its rising talents.
