Crypto SA Blends Tech Soul

South African artist Crypto SA (born Siyabonga Mncube) is carving out a distinctive niche in the local music scene by blending technology with township rhythms. In an April 2026 interview, the rising star discussed his transition from a tech-focused background to professional music.

Known for a style that fuses Gqom and Amapiano with futuristic production, his debut EP, Impumelelo, has garnered attention for its polished sound. His lead single, “S.W.W.E.B,” exemplifies this “digital-meets-drums” approach. 

Reflecting on his stage name and the intersection of his two worlds, he said, “I want my music to represent the streets and the digital era at the same time. It’s about being independent and showing that a kid from the township can understand the future of tech just as much as the next person.”

Regarding his growth, Crypto SA has stated that his goal is to merge local culture with global technology trends. During the rollout of “Umhlaba” in March 2026, he remarked: “The music is about the world we live in now. We are the first generation to really bridge the gap between the streets and the digital ledger.” 

He continues to focus on independent distribution, often telling his fans, “You don’t need a middleman when you have a community that believes in the sound.”
