Cyan Boujee Probed Over Promotion of Russian Scheme

August 25, 2025

South African influencer and DJ, Cyan Boujee, is under official investigation after endorsing Russia’s Alabuga Start Programme, a controversial initiative accused of being a front for human trafficking.

Boujee, whose real name is Honour Zuma, shared videos on TikTok encouraging young women to apply for the two-year programme that is said to offer skills and career development. She later deleted the posts after widespread criticism and amid fears that the scheme lures unsuspecting women into exploitative conditions.

The Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster confirmed on Sunday, 24 August, that the matter is being investigated, advising the public to verify all overseas job or study offers through official channels.

Public anger has been fierce, with many social media users demanding accountability.

Clayson Monyela, Head of Public Diplomacy at the Department of International Relations, warned: “Human trafficking syndicates are luring people into all sorts of illegal activities under slave-like conditions.”

The scandal has highlighted both the risks of unverified online opportunities and the responsibilities borne by social media stars when promoting them. As investigations continue, Boujee has yet to comment publicly on her role in the controversy.
