Distruction Boyz Break Up for Good

June 24, 2020

It’s official, folks: Distruction Boyz are going their separate ways.

The Durban-based music duo – comprising Zipho “Goldmax” Mthembu and Thobani “Que” Mgobhozi – first burst onto the scene in 2016 with their gqom song, “Ngoma Yam”.

A year later, their star grew brighter when their breakout track, “Omunye”, shot to the top of South African music charts.

According to a source close to the pair, Mthembu and Mgobhozi clashed over creative differences.

The source explained: “They feel they’re talented and will be more appreciated as individuals who will be more successful apart. They realised that they’re different; they want different things in life and have different styles of music.”

However, while confirming their split in a recent interview with a media outlet, Mthembu said: “There’s no bad blood between us, it’s just that we’re now focusing on our solo careers.”

Mgobhozi seemingly echoed his former colleague in another recent interview, saying: “There are no bad vibes about our split.”
