Ebenezer Obey Assures Fans He is ‘Alive and Well’
Nigerian juju music legend Ebenezer Obey has once again dismissed false reports of his death, insisting he remains in good health.
The 83-year-old singer took to Instagram on Monday, 8 September, to dispel all concerns. Appearing in a video alongside his sons, Larry and Bishop Folarin, they all sang together to reassure his supporters. The clip was captioned: “Stop the rumours!!!! Ebenezer Obey is alive and well.”
Addressing the claims, Obey described them as malicious, saying: “Everything they have said is nothing but lies that came from the kingdom of darkness. I am alive, I am alive, says the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you very much. I don’t have a stroke. I came to London to look after myself. [sic]”
The veteran performer expressed frustration at the recurring stories, which have included fabricated images of coffins. Similar rumours circulated in 2020 and resurfaced earlier this year, forcing those close to him to step in and clarify.
Despite the distress caused, Obey remained firm in his faith, telling fans that “God is in control”. The musician, revered for his decades-long career, continues to be a towering figure in African music.
