Elon Musk and Trevor Noah Clash Over “Woke” Comedy

October 13, 2025

Elon Musk and Trevor Noah are once again at odds, this time over a controversial joke about the death of conservative American activist Charlie Kirk.

During a recent stand-up show in New York City, New York, the 41-year-old comedian remarked on the irony of Kirk being “shot while defending guns,” before adding: “You have to admit that it is an incongruous, funny thing that happened.”

The clip quickly spread online, dividing audiences. Some accused Noah of insensitivity, while others defended his right to use dark humour to make social commentary.

Musk, however, was unimpressed. Writing on Twitter/X, the 54-year-old billionaire said: “The guy actually has talent, but needs to get the woke virus out of his brain.”

This isn’t the pair’s first spat: Noah previously criticised Musk on his “What Now?” podcast in April, suggesting he manipulates public sentiment to serve his business interests.

The latest exchange has reignited debate over “woke” comedy, freedom of expression, and the thin line between satire and insensitivity, and once again proving that both men know how to spark a global conversation.
