Fake Disney Event Takes the Mickey out of Locals

August 05, 2019

South Africans were left fuming after attending a rip-off Disney-themed event in Polokwane, Limpopo over the weekend.

Advertised as “Winter in Disneyland Polokwane” – which charged R80 per adult, R50 per child, and R250 for a family package – the event took place at Airport Africa Lounge on Saturday, 3 August.

Attendees were promised a variety of activities to partake in, such as a sweet hunt, an egg-and-spoon race, and quad-biking, among others.

Additionally, there were to be live performances from iconic Disney characters including Queen Elsa, Olaf and Princess Sofia.

Instead, there were three small jumping castles, alcoholic beverages allegedly being sold, and no seats to sit on as they watched three performers – dressed in Mickey Mouse, Tigger and Winnie the Pooh mascot costumes – dancing to age-inappropriate local music on a small stage.

According to reports, angry parents took over the event and demanded that the organisers refund them.

When reached for comment, Disney Africa stressed that this was not their event and are carrying out an investigation.
