Fans Mourn Death of Candy Moloi
South Africa is in mourning after veteran actress, Cecilia “Candy” Moloi, passed away at the age of 67.
According to a statement released by her family this morning, Wednesday 29 July, Moloi passed away at a hospital in Pretoria the previous day.
Her death comes after she endured a lengthy battle with cancer. She will be buried in Thohoyandou, Limpopo, at an unspecified date.
Moloi is best known for playing the character of Vho-Makhadzi on “Muvhango” – a role that she originated when the popular soapie first premiered in 1997.
Other famous roles include MaModumedi on the television mini-series, “Death of a Queen”, and Fhatu Neluvhola on the thriller series, “Thola”.
Tributes poured in for Moloi from heartbroken fans, with one user writing on Twitter: “Our original Diva [sic]! RIP Our Queen [sic] … while we mourn … the heavens are celebrating your red carpeted [sic] arrival!”
Another user tweeted: “May your souls rest in eternal peace Mom [sic] Candy Moloi. Thank you for your talent you shared with us.”
Moloi is survived by her son Tshepo Moloi, daughter Lerato Zah, and two grandsons.
