K Naomi Slammed for Bipolar Disorder Tweet
Social media users were up in arms after television presenter, K Naomi, posted a harsh tweet seemingly aimed at those who suffer from bipolar disorder.
Taking to Twitter early this morning, Wednesday 19 June, K Naomi – who has been open about her past struggles with her mental health – wrote: “I hate bipolar people…You can’t always switch up, choose your vibes and be about them [sic].”
As a result, backlash towards her now-deleted tweet was swift.
One user wrote: “Bipolar [disorder] is not a choice, it’s manic depression. Go educated [sic] yourself first about mental health conditions before you tweet.”
Another added: “This is a bipolar slur. You are perpetuating a false stereotype about bipolar disorder.”
K Naomi has since issued an apology via Twitter, saying that she used the wrong wording to express how she felt about people “who always switch up.”
She added: “I am totally aware and know where I was wrong. This is a lesson for me to think before I tweet and to never tweet when I’m angry. Apologies again.”
