Kanye West’s SA Concert: Mega Event or Major Scam?
South Africans have been buzzing since Kanye West, known as “Ye”, announced that he would perform at Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg, Gauteng, on 13 December 2025.
The event poster – shared via his official Twitter/X account on Saturday, 20 September – promised tickets through Ticketpro but so far, the link doesn’t work and the company has issued no statement on the matter.
Scepticism grew when fans discovered the organiser, Monyake Group, has a sparse website, a newly-made Instagram page with just three Kanye-related posts, and no proven track record of major events.
An apparent representative has told a local publication that a full press release will be issued on Tuesday, 23 September, claiming “everything will become clear”.
The controversy has also been fuelled by news that Ye’s Instagram account was recently hacked. The confusion deepened when a near-identical poster promoting a show in Brazil surfaced on the same page, leaving fans unsure of what to believe.
Tweeps have joked online, comparing the unfolding saga to the ill-fated Fyre Festival, while others wryly mused about convicted criminal Thabo Bester’s possible involvement.
For now, the excitement is mixed with suspicion – and until either Ye or Ticketpro confirms the details, fans may want to hold onto their wallets.
