Lance James, 81, Passes Away
Afrikaans country singer, Lance James, has passed away at the age of 81.
According to his long-time agent, Lydia Winchester, James had been admitted to an undisclosed hospital in Johannesburg, Gauteng, after experiencing issues with his heart.
He had also undergone an emergency hip replacement operation after falling down at the hospital, but his health continued to deteriorate.
On Monday, 2 March, the singer passed away in the presence of his close friends and family.
Popularly known as “Big Daddy”, James began performing live music when he was 16-years-old. His famous hits include “Dankie”, “Hoe Groot is U” and “Don’t Let The Old Man In”.
He was also known for his popular stint as a presenter on Springbok Radio from 1954 until 1985.
James’ record label, Just Music, paid tribute to the late singer, saying: “How honoured and proud we were to work with you, LJ [sic]. You were a true gentleman and a lifelong music man of note. You will be sorely missed but never ever forgotten.”
