Lesley Ann Brandt Celebrates Her South African Roots
South African-born star Lesley Ann Brandt expressed a deep pride in her homeland during an interview with a local publication on Thursday, 4 September.
Although she has built a successful career in Hollywood, with credits in “Lucifer”, “Gotham” and “The Walking Dead”, the 43-year-old actress insists South Africa remains central to who she is.
“I did not become as patriotic as I am until I left South Africa. There is a blood love I have for this country. It never leaves you,” she explained.
Her patriotism extends beyond words. Brandt is a board member of the Kay Mason Foundation, which supports young people from disadvantaged communities through education and mentoring. She says she feels a duty to give back, having grown up on the Cape Flats herself.
This December, she will return home with her husband and eight-year-old son, who has never experienced Christmas in South Africa.
“He asked me if Father Christmas… comes to South Africa. I told him yes; he brings your presents and then stays for a braai,” she said, adding that she wants him to understand humility by seeing children who have less, but remain happy.
