Mangaliso Ngema Responds to Rape Charges
Actor Mangaliso Ngema, known for his role on “Generations”, has responded to his cousin Queen Ngema’s accusations of rape by claiming that she is mentally unwell.
The act allegedly occurred three times over a decade ago at his home, where Queen was staying while mourning the loss of her son. The two cousins – who used to be close – refer to each other as siblings due to their upbringing.
In the statement released on Saturday, 11 June via Instagram, Ngema said, “My sister has not been well since the end of April this year. She was admitted to the hospital for psychotic behaviour but she refused psychiatric treatment and absconded from the facility.
“She has been on a rampage since then, accusing everyone, her family and friends of various shocking things.”
Queen has since responded, stating that she does not suffer from any mental illness: “I am not crazy, and I was never diagnosed crazy; he’s trying to clear his name by defending himself so he will do anything to get away from this trouble.”
Additionally, many people are reluctant to believe the actor, saying that he was “victim-blaming”, while also pointing out that this is not the first time he has been accused of sexual misconduct.
Ngema was arrested last Wednesday, 8 June on the charge of rape before he appeared at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court the following day and was released on a bail of R5 000. He will appear in court on 4 August to face the charges.
