Master KG’s ‘Jerusalema’ Becomes Global Dance Phenomenon
Limpopo-born artist, Kgaogelo Moagi – best known as Master KG – has taken the world by storm as his hit single, “Jerusalema”, continues to shine across the globe.
The song – featuring the vocals of Nomcebo Zikoke, and released in November 2019 – has reached 46 million views on YouTube within eight months of release, clearly loved and embraced by South Africans.
Most recently, Master KG released a Jerusalema remix featuring a Nigerian singer and songwriter, Burna Boy, which went viral and gained attraction all over the world under the hashtag, #JerusalemaDanceChallenge.
Several dance challenges – performed in countries from Australia and the United States of America, to China and Africa’s own Angola, Nigeria and Tanzania – have been uploaded on different social media channels.
Outstanding beautiful challenges include ones being carried out by monks in Milan, Italy, as well as health workers, and Franciscan nuns and priests, in France.
In a world plagued by a pandemic, this South African gospel song has truly united people across the world – all of various nationalities, religion, language, culture and beliefs – through dance!
