Metro FM Music Awards Receives Mixed Reviews
The 2024 Metro FM Music Awards had its ups and downs, with some attendees walking away from the event less than impressed.
South African celebrities gathered at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga on Saturday, 27 April, to hear who would be crowned as the top dogs of the local music scene. However, fewer people attended than usual, leaving some to feel like the “vibe” was lacking.
According to reports, the uncomfortable and cramped entryway caused a traffic jam while faulty sound engineering left the announcements echoing across the stadium.
Thankfully, the night wasn’t all bad. Rapper Cassper Nyovest reunited with singer Goapele to perform their 2017 hit, ‘Destiny’, bringing some life to the party.
Amapiano artists, Kabza De Small and Mthunzi, were showered with recognition during the awards ceremony, walking away with four trophies from the Best Amapiano, Song of the Year, Best Produced Album and Best Collaboration categories.
Singer-songwriter Aymos was next up, and he took home two awards – the Best Male and Best Music Video – for his hit single ‘Izenzo’.
