Miss South Africa: Entrant Sorry over Offensive Tweets
A Miss South Africa hopeful has issued an apology, after derogatory posts from her Twitter account resurfaced online.
Bianca Schoombee – a 21-year-old student and model – initially dazzled folks on Saturday, 16 May, when she submitted her virtual entry into this year’s national beauty pageant.
However, some of her tweets from six years ago – several of which contain images and comments that include racist digs, female-centric insults and body-shaming remarks – were unearthed by users on Tuesday evening, 19 May.
One such tweet by the then-14-year-old Schoombee reads: “The reason that they [sic] boys like your photo isn’t because you’re pretty, it’s because you’re almost naked.”
In response to the social media backlash, Schoombee apologised via Twitter on Wednesday morning, 20 May.
She wrote: “I would like to make you all aware that I have grown as a person, this is no longer who I am or what I stand for … it’s important to forgive yourself. I really hope that SA [sic] can forgive me for these immature posts, as I have forgiven myself and moved on.”
