Mobi Dixon Responds to Nichume Mistreatment Claims
Musician and businessman, Mobi Dixon, has responded to claims that his mistreatment of singer Nichume Siwundla led her to commit suicide.
On Thursday, 6 June, Siwundla – who was signed to Dixon’s record label, Top Chap Media – reportedly threw herself off a second-floor balcony at a friend’s home at the Greenstone Ridge apartment complex in Edenvale, Johannesburg.
Her funeral took place on Saturday, June 15, in Beacon Bay, East London.
Earlier last week, “Man’s Not Barry Roux” – a controversial parody Twitter account – posted a series of tweets accusing Dixon of mistreating the late “Bhutiza” hitmaker to the point of death.
This includes allegedly forcing Siwundla to quit her job as an ophthalmologist to focus on music, and also failing to pay her performance fees and monthly royalties.
In response to the allegations, Top Chap Media released a statement: “We will respect the wishes of the family and refrain from making any further statements or comments about [Siwundla]. In respect for the deceased … we believe the main priority now should be giving her a dignified send-off.”
The label also promised to issue further communication on the matter in the near future.
