Moonyeenn Lee, 76, Passes Away
Local casting director and agent, Moonyeenn Lee, has passed away at the age of 76.
According to a statement released on Sunday, 19 July, via her casting agency’s Facebook page, Lee passed away in Johannesburg on Saturday morning, 18 July.
The cause of death was due to complications with the coronavirus.
The agency paid tribute to their founder: “[Lee] helped shape the lives of many actors, directors and writers through her fierce honesty and passion. The South African film industry has lost an icon and a formidable champion of the arts. She will be sorely missed by us all.”
For the past 47 years, Lee has managed the casting on a number of prolific films such as “Hotel Rwanda” and “Tsotsi”, as well as on television shows such as “Homeland” and “The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency.”
She is survived by her two children – a daughter named Cindy, and a son named David Lee – and her pets, Hitchcock, Eva and Spice.
