Mose Tembe Denies AKA Murder Claims

February 17, 2023

The father of AKA’s late fiancee, Anele “Nelli” Tembe, has denied being involved in the rapper’s death.

Two years after Tembe’s unexpected passing after falling from a hotel balcony in Cape Town, AKA – real name Kiernan Forbes – and his friend Tebello Motsoane were shot dead by hooded gunmen on Florida Road in Durban last Friday, 10 February.

On Thursday, 16 February, Moses Tembe released a statement in which he rubbished claims that he and his family orchestrated the rapper’s death so as to avenge his daughter.

“These accusations are untrue and without substance,” it reads. “I categorically state that my family feel [sic] the pain of the Forbes family and would never be involved in an abhorrent act of this nature.”

Calling out the “cruel and libellous” nature of the allegations, the businessman emphatically added: “After having to deal with the tragedy of the untimely passing of our daughter, this senseless crime has taken a further emotional toll on us. I respectfully request the individuals making these baseless statements to refrain from doing so.”

A public memorial service for AKA will take place at Sandton Convention Centre today, Friday 17 February; he will then be laid to rest tomorrow (Saturday, 18 February) in a private, provincial ceremony reserved for family, friends and hip-hop industry peers.
