Mzansi Celebs Stand with Naija to #EndSARS
Mzansi celebrities have pledged their allegiance and support to fans in Nigeria, who are fighting against the country’s corrupt police unit called the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
The Nigerian movement, #EndSARS has received a lot of attention across the globe – following a brutal incident that took place on Saturday, 3 October 2020 – where this corrupt police unit was caught on camera dragging two men, and ending up killing one.
Despite Mzansi’s sometimes poor reputation of not accepting other Africans in the country, and tensions have dominated the headlines for that reason under #Xenophobia and #PutSouthAfricansFirst – many local celebs took to Twitter to voice their support for this cause.
Pearl Thusi, who is always standing against xenophobia, called for action against police brutality in a tweet to her 2,5 million followers.
She wrote “The movement continues… from the USA to South Africa, Nigeria and all around the world…Let’s lend each other support and fight this violent oppression together!! #EndSARS”.
South Africa’s most influential rappers, Cassper Nyovest and Nasty C, also took a stand and
added their voices to the cause.
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has dissolved the SARS, following worldwide protests against the unit.
