Nigerian Talent Sweeps 9th AFRIMA Ceremony in Lagos
Nigeria’s musical dominance was the central theme of the 9th All Africa Music Awards, which concluded on Sunday, 11 January.
Following a brief postponement of its original 2025 date, the ceremony in Lagos, Nigeria, served as a powerful testament to the global ascent of Afrobeats.
Rema emerged as the event’s most decorated figure, securing a hat-trick of honours including Artist of the Year, Best Male Artiste in Western Africa, and Best African Artiste in RnB and Soul.
Global icon Burna Boy further cemented his status by winning Album of the Year for “No Sign of Weakness”, while Shallipopi claimed Song of the Year for his viral hit, “Laho”.
The evening also celebrated the next generation of Nigerian stars, with Qing Madi named Most Promising Artiste, and Chella winning the African Fans’ Favourite award. The rest of the continent’s diversity was represented by winners such as Tanzania’s Juma Jux and South Africa’s Nontokozo Mkhize.
Blending expert jury selection with fan engagement, the week-long festival highlighted the genre-blurring creativity currently defining the continent. The event proved that African music remains a formidable cultural force on the world stage.
