“O Jewa Ke Eng?” Star Heading to “Lithapo”
Nursing student-turned-social media influencer, Keabetswe Jan, can now add “actress” to her resume after landing a role in a local telenovela.
Last year, Jan posted a four-word tweet that became a global sensation: “O jewa ke eng?” When translated to English, the SeSotho phrase means “What is eating you?”, an expression that is typically used for asking why someone is annoyed or unhappy.
Since then, Jan – who often replies to people who use the tweet to share what’s on their minds – has become a shining star on South African Twitter.
Now, the 20-year-old is about to grace the nation’s television screens, after she revealed on Twitter on Wednesday, 25 March, that she will be appearing soon on Sesotho telenovela, “Lithapo”.
Posting two photos – in which she is seen wearing a green school uniform and blazer – Jan wrote in the caption: “Meet Lebo on set shooting for #Lithapo [sic] … you’ll meet her in the near future. She’s not as nice as she looks!”
Fans have since sent in congratulatory messages to Jan, with one user writing: “You have gone from strength to strength. Watching you grow has truly been an inspiration … congratulations hun [sic]! May you continue to grow sis [sic]!”
