Osas Ighodaro Sparks Call for Nollywood Intimacy Coaches

September 02, 2025

Nollywood star Osas Ighodaro has reignited debate around professional boundaries on film sets after recalling a troubling first on-screen kiss.

During a recent episode of “The Culture League” podcast, the 34-year-old actress revealed that a male colleague once tried to use his tongue during a scripted kiss without prior agreement.

“My first on-screen kiss in Nigeria took me by surprise … you are not supposed to put your tongue down somebody’s mouth. But the person did,” she said, adding that such actions are “rude and unprofessional.”

Her remarks highlight the absence of structured guidance in the African nation’s movie sector when it comes to filming intimate scenes. While Hollywood has introduced intimacy coordinators to choreograph moments of romance and safeguard actors, the Nigerian industry has yet to embrace such practices.

With Nollywood expanding globally, calls are growing for productions to adopt clearer standards that respect performers’ consent and comfort. Ighodaro’s experience serves as a reminder that professionalism should extend beyond storytelling to protect the very actors bringing those stories to life.
