Pearl Thusi Defends Sho Madjozi
Actress Pearl Thusi has clapped back at those who have been critical of Sho Madjozi, after she won the Best Newcomer Award at the 25th South African Music Awards (SAMAs) on Saturday, 1 June.
Madjozi’s win came as a surprise, as Mlindo the Vocalist was the firm favourite to clinch the award.
After the announcement, many took to social media to voice their shock and displeasure that the female rapper won the award instead of Mlindo.
Thusi, however, quickly came to Madjozi’s defense online. In a profanity-laden post on Twitter, she told people to either celebrate Madjozi’s victory, or to leave her alone.
The 31-year-old actress’s passionate stand also saw her get dragged, more so for her language than for her comment.
Madjozi was also named Best Female Artist at the SAMAs. She said: “I’m mind-blown, but I’m so happy that I could make my people proud, especially back in the village. I am also happy that I can make my mama proud.”
