Pearl Thusi Sorry over Controversial Interview

“Behind The Scenes” host, Pearl Thusi, has issued an apology after she was criticised for defending her interview with local comedian, Tol Ass Mo.

Last weekend, Twitter users were in uproar that the comedian – real name Mongezi Mahlangu – was being given an opportunity to be interviewed on the television show, despite allegations that he sexually assaulted and raped model Lerato Moloi in 2014.

The backlash strengthened after Thusi defended herself in a now-deleted tweet, in which she compared herself to media personality, Gayle King, who interviewed rape-accused R. Kelly last year without judgement.

On Monday, 24 August, Thusi took to Twitter to apologise, writing: “There was never an intention to hurt, harm or create any imbalance in the fight against [gender-based violence] – a fight I have supported my entire career. And for that I apologize [sic] unreservedly.”

Additionally, the episode featuring Tol Ass Mo has officially been pulled by television network, BET Africa.
