SA Actress Joins “Star Trek: Discovery”

Phumzile Sitole is doing Mzansi proud, after it was announced that she had landed a new role on the American sci-fi television show, “Star Trek: Discovery.”

According to the series’ official Twitter account on Tuesday, 27 October, it was revealed that Sitole would be joining the cast as Captain Ndoye.

The account also posted promotional images from the show’s set, where the 31-year-old actress – alongside fellow cast-member, Blu Del Barrio – is seen wearing an impressive-looking blue uniform.

Many social media users have congratulated Sitole, with her friend Carla Fonsesca writing: “My sister, ride or die, best friend, maid of honor, is the CAPTAIN OF EARTH!!! [sic] Words cant express how proud I am of u [sic].”

Speaking to a media outlet about the outpouring, the actress gushed: “I’ve maintained that a majority of my favourite actors and actresses are South African, and so I’m excited for an opportunity to get more of our work on the scene.”

Sitole’s debut episode is scheduled to air on Netflix South Africa this Friday, 30 October.
