“Shaka iLembe” Hails Epic Final Season in 2026

September 01, 2025

The much-celebrated South African drama, “Shaka iLembe”, will return for a third and final season in 2026, concluding the story of the legendary Zulu king.

Produced by BOMB! Productions for local entertainment company, Mzansi Magic, the series has become MultiChoice’s most ambitious project, creating over 24 000 jobs across its first two seasons and winning more South African Film & Television Awards than any other drama during the awards’ 2024 edition.

Season one charted Shaka’s path to manhood, while the second instalment followed his rise as king at KwaNobamba. The final chapter promises betrayal, war, and political intrigue, as well as the arrival of British settlers at Port Natal.

Nomzamo Mbatha, who reprises her role as Queen Nandi while serving as executive producer, called the show “the project of my career,” while adding: “This third season is the culmination of a world that African viewers have found deep love and admiration for.”

Fellow executive producer, Desiree Markgraaff, described the closing season as a chance to “expand that universe of kings and queens, warriors, healers and leaders,” while MultiChoice’s Nomsa Philiso praised it for setting “a new standard for African storytelling.”

The final season will bring the sweeping saga to a dramatic close.
