Sicelo Buthelezi Wins 1st Acting Award
Rising star, Sicelo Buthelezi, has clinched his first major acting award at the fourth annual Royalty Soapies Awards, which aired on Saturday evening, 26 September.
The 35-year-old actor clinched the Outstanding Newcomer award for his role as Teddy in the popular soapie, “Gomora”.
Delivering his acceptance speech at the pre-recorded awards ceremony, Buthelezi thanked his family and fellow cast-mates for their support.
He then said: “This award for me means that I’m noticed and acknowledged. It means that the work that I do is not taken for granted … A year ago I never thought that I’d be where I am … with God’s timing, “Gomora” happened, and then this award came proving that when God says ‘Yes’ to your prayers, nobody can say ‘No.’”
Buthelezi’s co-star, Sannah Mchunu – who plays his onscreen mother, Zodwa, on the show – bagged the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress.
“Gomora” also raked in two other awards: Outstanding Directing Team and Most Popular Soapie of the Year.
