Sizwe Dhlomo Scoffs at The Kiffness’ R500K Claim
South African broadcaster Sizwe Dhlomo has cast doubt on musician The Kiffness’ claim that he lost a R500 000 brand campaign over his support of late political activist, Charlie Kirk.
David Scott – who is better known as The Kiffness – told followers on Monday, 15 September, that a lucrative deal had been cancelled after he previously shared a public tribute to Kirk, who had been shot dead during a public event in Utah the week before.
“Just lost a [R500 000] campaign because I defended Charlie Kirk. Worth it to be honest,” he posted on X/Twitter, alongside a screenshot of the termination email.
The post quickly sparked debate, with some praising Scott’s defiance while others questioned the wisdom of backing such a divisive figure. Dhlomo, however, mocked the 37-year-old musician’s claim outright, writing: “Lol! Who was dumb enough to pay you R500k to begin with? [sic]”
The sceptical remark fuelled an already heated discussion, with critics suggesting the story might be exaggerated, while supporters argued it highlighted the risks public figures face when speaking their minds.
The exchange has underlined how an outspoken post can ignite a national conversation on free expression versus commercial caution.
