Spat Between DJ Sbu and Zahara Intensifies

May 30, 2019

The feud between DJ Sbu and former TS Records artist, Zahara, has been reignited, as the DJ and co-owner of the label responded on social media to her allegations of being underpaid.

In response to a recent motivational tweet, DJ Sbu found himself on the receiving end of a barrage of angry responses from fans demanding that he address Zahara’s claims that his label still owes her money for performances, record sales and royalties.

The DJ – whose full name is Sbusiso Leope – issued a statement in response, saying that the artist has “been paid funds amounting to more than R10m [sic] into her own personal banking account to date”.

He also said that the label has supported Zahara – real name Bulelwa Mkutukane – through her alcohol addiction.

He said: “When the media was attacking her during her addiction, we were the ones who took her to rehab. Including this past Christmas Day, December 25 2018 – we were the ones by her bedside during her hospitalisation because of her alcohol addiction.”

TS Records has issued Zahara with a cease and desist letter instructing her to stop making “false and defamatory statements” about the company in the media, while the musician claims that she has been sober since last year October.
