Tebogo G Mashego’s Turbulent Journey to Redemption

October 20, 2025

Tebogo G Mashego has sparked both concern and sympathy after a series of emotional public appearances and apologies to fellow artists.

The 23-year-old amapiano star – who is best known for his hit single, “Biri Marung” – made headlines after claiming he was stranded in Nigeria and was owed R23 million by the Scorpion Kings.

Following weeks of online turmoil, Mashego appeared on Instagram on Friday, 17 October, with a shaven head, calmly saying: “Eh, guys, mental breakdown. I have a lot to say, but today I came to apologise.”

He later offered what fans have called a “half-apology”, telling DJ Maphorisa, DJ Karri, and DJ JazziQ: “Please forgive me, but only for swearing at you … I still want my money.”

His mix of remorse and defiance divided opinions on social media, with some praising his accountability and others questioning his state of mind.

Mashego’s family have since confirmed he will take a break from public appearances and social media, urging fans to keep him in their prayers.

Despite the chaos, industry observers say the young artist’s honesty may mark the start of a much-needed reset for Mashego.
