Tems, Rema Shine on Barack Obama’s 2024 Playlist
Nigerian musicians Tems and Rema have once again earned spots on former US President Barack Obama’s annual playlist.
This tradition, dating back to 2015, sees the 63-year-old former statesman sharing his favourite tracks of the season with a global audience.
Tems, known for her soulful sound, is featured with her hit single “Love Me Jeje”, from her debut album, “Born In The Wild”. This marks her third consecutive appearance on Obama’s playlist, following previous entries with “Vibe Out” and “Me & U”.
Rema, another leading figure in the Afrobeats movement, also made the cut with “Yayo” from his latest album, “HEIS”. This inclusion follows his earlier recognition in 2019 with the song “Iron Man”.
Joining them is Nigerian-American artist Shaboozey, whose track “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” is prominently featured as the playlist’s leading track.
Obama’s collection of hits is renowned for its diverse range of genres and artists from around the world. The incorporation of these Nigerian artists not only highlights their international appeal, but also underscores the growing global influence of Afrobeats.
