The Fergusons Slammed for Recycling Actors
Connie and Shona Ferguson have received some backlash, after a trailer for their new Netflix series dropped earlier this week.
Produced by their company, Ferguson Films, “Kings of Joburg” is a six-episode series that tells the story of two brothers who hail from the Masire crime family.
Mixing drama with elements of the occult, the series touches upon themes such as African masculinity, family structures, and the effects of crime.
The star-studded cast includes SK Khoza, Buhle Samuels, Tsholofelo Matshaba, Cindy Mahlangu, and Shona Ferguson himself in the role of Simon “Vader” Masire.
Needless to say, South Africans have mixed feelings about “Kings of Joburg” – specifically, the cast members who already appear in Ferguson-produced shows such as “The Queen.”
One user recently wrote on twitter: “The Fergusons have no fresh content to give us, they recycle same [sic] actors with similar storylines. There is nothing new and fresh about their content, they are so predictable.”
Another Twitter user wrote: “I wish The Fergusons [sic] can take young and fresh actors. I’m tired of seeing old and same actors.”
“Kings of Joburg” is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on 4 December.
