Thembi Mtshali-Jones Takes Top US Award

Veteran actress, Thembi Mtshali-Jones, is set to receive a prestigious award at the 2019 National Theatre Festival in the United States of America.

The 69-year-old legend has enjoyed an illustrious career: her most recognised roles include Thoko in “‘Sgudi ‘Snaysi”, shebeen queen Hazel Dube in “Stokvel”, and matriarch MaNdlovu in “Imbewu: The Seed”.

In honour of her lifelong contribution to the arts, Mtshali-Jones will receive the Living Legend Award at the National Theatre Festival, an event that recognises the talents of those working in the entertainment industry around the world.

The festival takes place in the US state of North Carolina from 29 July to 3 August.

Sharing the news in a recent statement, Mtshali-Jones said: “I feel very honoured and so excited to be recognised abroad and not only at home. I have presented my work at that festival for many years, and to be finally getting recognition while I’m still alive is a huge privilege.”
