In a heartwarming twist at the Meltdown Festival in London, England, Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage paused her live performance to acknowledge a familiar face in the crowd: her former English teacher.

While performing at the Southbank Centre on Saturday, 14 June, the 45-year-old “Oyi” singer brought the show to a brief standstill after spotting the man who once taught her. With visible excitement, she stepped off stage, greeted him with a warm hug, and shared a few words, delighting the audience who responded with thunderous cheers.

“This is my English teacher!” she exclaimed, prompting one of the night’s most memorable moments.

The performance – part of Little Simz’ curated Meltdown lineup – included popular tracks like “Ma Lo” and “You4Me”, but it was this unexpected reunion that truly stole the show.

The touching moment comes in the wake of recent public remarks by her estranged husband, Tee Billz, criticising her parenting and work schedule. She has yet to address the accusations.

Still, on this night, it was all about music, memories and a tribute to someone who shaped her early years and left a mark on her life.
