Tyla Makes History At AMAs

May 26, 2026

South African sensation Tyla solidified her status as a global powerhouse at the 52nd American Music Awards, held on May 25, 2026, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The singer-songwriter made history by winning two major categories: Best Afrobeats Artist and Social Song of the Year for her hit single, “CHANEL.”

This victory marks Tyla’s second consecutive win for Best Afrobeats Artist, a feat that distinguishes her as the first artist to achieve back-to-back wins in this category. With these two new trophies, she has officially become the most-awarded and most-nominated African artist in the history of the American Music Awards, bringing her career total to four AMA wins.

Although Tyla did not attend the ceremony in person, and her categories were not featured in the main televised broadcast, the impact of her wins resonated across social media. Her success follows a record-breaking year where she became the first African artist to land multiple Top 10 hits on the global Spotify chart. While she was not on stage, the night featured performances by other heavyweights, including Artist of the Year winner BTS, Sabrina Carpenter, and KATSEYE.
