Tyla Makes History With AMA Nods

April 16, 2026

South African sensation Tyla continues her global ascent, making history on 15 April 2026 as the first African artist to receive four nominations in major categories at the American Music Awards (AMAs).

The “Water” hitmaker is up for Artist of the Year, Favourite Pop Female Artist, Favorite R&B Song, and the newly minted Best Afrobeats Act.

The milestone follows a prolific year where Tyla’s self-titled debut album maintained a top-ten presence on the Billboard 200.

During a celebratory livestream on Wednesday, the Grammy winner teased an upcoming collaboration with Swedish pop star Zara Larsson, describing the track as a “high-energy fusion of Amapiano and Nordic pop.”

“I’m literally shaking,” Tyla told her followers during the broadcast. “To see a girl from Johannesburg in these categories is a dream I’m still waking up from. South Africa, we are truly global now!”

Zara Larsson further fueled the excitement by tweeting, “The song we made is a monster. Tyla is a generational talent.”
