Watch Out! Grootman is Coming for Your Money

July 20, 2022

Mzansi has been warned against doing business with influencer Themba Selahle, also known as “Grootman”, as clients and investors have allegedly been swindled via his Forex trading Ponzi schemes.

The Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) has warned the public to be careful while doing business with the alleged swindler-turned-socialite.

A statement released by FSCA on Tuesday, 19 July read: “Mr Selahle allegedly offers to trade in Forex on behalf of members of the public. He promises high and unreasonable returns to clients and is alleged to ignore them when they attempt to withdraw their funds or their profits.”

Aside from Forex scams, Grootman has also established himself as an influencer on Instagram, with over 339 000 followers and counting. His feed features yachts, flowing champagne, beachfront views from the bed, and origami bouquets of flowers made out of cold hard cash.

Two months ago, an unsuspecting individual – whose identity is unknown, presumably for legal reasons – invested the last of their rent money in Grootman’s schemes, but he refused to return it. He was spotted just a few days later, racking up a R28 000-bill at Booth Night Club in Johannesburg.

A recent post on Instagram from the so-called socialite reads, “Nobody owes you some sort of support, help or loyalty … It’s your responsibility to give yourselves the life that you want for yourself.”
