Wizkid Sparks Debate After Declaring Himself Number One

Nigerian Afrobeats icon Wizkid has set social media abuzz after boldly declaring himself the number one artist in the country.

The 35-year-old singer recently shared a photo on his Instagram story showing a whiteboard with the handwritten words: “Type sht. Big Wiz. Number 1. [sic]”

The post quickly went viral, reigniting the long-standing debate over Nigeria’s so-called “Big 3” – Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy – who are often celebrated as the nation’s leading global music exports.

Following the Grammy-winning musician’s declaration, Israel DMW, a close associate of Davido, appeared to respond on social media, writing: “Na by mouth? [sic]”

His remark hinted that actions, not claims, determine true supremacy in the music scene.

Fans were sharply divided, with some supporting Wizkid’s confidence and others defending Davido’s dominance, citing his global milestones. Meanwhile, a few observers called for unity, suggesting that all three artists have significantly shaped Afrobeats’ worldwide rise.

Wizkid’s bold statement has once again fuelled spirited debates across fan bases, reinforcing his reputation as one of Africa’s most talked-about music figures.
