Celeb Twitter Round-Up: Carlo Radebe Pleads for Financial Help

August 14, 2024

Local actor Carlo Radebe is in dire straits once again.

Radebe is known for his appearances in TV shows such as “Generations”, “7de Laan” and “Backstage”. He also appeared in movies including “Amandla”, “Cuckold” and “How to Steal 2 Million”.

Back in April, it was revealed that the 51-year-old actor had fallen on hard times, which saw him becoming homeless and barely able to survive on his paltry R350 government grant. In response, the public pitched in to donate money to help him get back on his feet.

On Monday, 12 August, Radebe took to Facebook to post an update:

Per the post, Radebe has been broke “since June” and is still struggling to find work. As such, he is appealing to the public once again to open up their hearts and offer financial assistance.

Over on Twitter/X, some tweeps were saddened by the actor’s situation and maddened by the dynamics of the South African entertainment industry:

A few folks called on Gayton McKenzie, the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, as well as other media entities, to provide assistance:

Some tweeps questioned why Radebe can’t even land a simple gig, such as being in an ad:

@Number1Maestro offered their perspective, referring to the argument that influencers tend to land more airtime in comparison to trained/talented actors:

Meanwhile, others reckon that Radebe needs to seek job opportunities outside of acting:

Of course, it’s very easy to tell someone to get a job wherever they can get it, but it can be difficult when they lack the basic necessities to be able to look for work (especially if it incurs electricity or transportation costs when looking for jobs online or travelling from place to place), getting themselves prepared for in-person interviews, etc.

So, here’s hoping that with a little more money from kind-hearted strangers, Carlo Radebe can pick himself up and find success in the future.
