Celeb Twitter Round-Up: DJ Zinhle’s “SWEET GULUVA” Song is Coming!
Mark your calendars, folks: DJ Zinhle and reality TV star, Akhonamathemba “Sweet Guluva” Mbele, are dropping a song together next Friday, 6 June!
Back in March, Sweet Guluva won the fifth season of “Big Brother Mzansi”, garnering legions of fans in the process. It’s no exaggeration when we say that even two months later, the 23-year-old student and aspiring entertainer from Nquthu, KwaZulu-Natal is still topping the Twitter/X trend lists on the daily (alongside his fellow contestant and girlfriend, Ashley Ogle).
DJ Zinhle is one such superfan, supporting Sweet Guluva ever since he entered the Big Brother House. That, and the “Umlilo” hitmaker also attended school with his mother, Bongiwe Zwane, with whom she discussed the possibility of collaborating on a song with her son.
Now, the song has gone from manifestation to reality, as DJ Zinhle dropped a teaser on Instagram on Saturday, 24 May:
The clip alternates between dancers in a dance studio – presumably rehearsing the choreography to the catchy “SWEET GULUVA” track that’s playing at full blast – and Sweet Guluva himself, showing off his moves with other dancers in a hall of sorts.
So far, the feedback on DJ Zinhle’s post has been positive, with folks already pinning it to be the #1 song of the year.
Over on Twitter/X, the feeling was (mostly) mutual, with many praising DJ Zinhle immortalising Sweet Guluva’s name AND greatness in song:
Naturally, where there is love, there is also hate. Other tweeps were not feeling the teaser, and they made their opinions known about it:
Several tweeps harped back at the trolls, with users like @truthalways2323 claiming that the song is only being disliked because of the famous (and perhaps overexposed) names involved:
Indeed, they might! And already, the whole of Mzansi Twitter/X is prepping for the inevitable #SweetGuluvaDanceChallenge:
Guess we’ll have to wait ‘til 6 June to see if the full track is worth the early praise. If anything, it just proves that there’s no keeping Sweet Guluva’s name out of South Africa’s mouth!
