Celeb Twitter Round-Up: Fans Mourn Death of Connie Chiume
Yet another one of South Africa’s most beloved stars has gone to the heavens: actress Connie Chiume has passed away at the age of 72.
News of Chiume’s death was announced in a family statement, which was posted onto her Instagram account:
Information about her cause of death has not yet been released, nor have any details regarding funeral arrangements.
Born in 1952 in Welkom, Free State, Chiume initially pursued a career in teaching before shifting her focus to acting. In 1989 onwards, she appeared as Thembi in the popular TV show, “Inkom’ Edla Yodwa”, which marked her breakthrough in the entertainment industry.
Many modern viewers know Chiume from her performances in “Rhythm City”, “Gomora” and “Queen Sono”, as well as her role as Stella Moloi in the SABC drama series, “Zone 14”.
Others will also recognise her for her appearances in Marvel flicks “Black Panther” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”, where she portrayed a councillor and an elder statesman, respectively.
For her contributions to the entertainment industry, Chiume received many accolades, including a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 6th Royal Soapie Awards, and Best Supporting Actress in a Drama at the 2009 South African Film and Television Awards.
